Is Love A Crime?

This is a Bible study prepared and studied with The Rebirth Forum in February, 2015. Since it is the word of God, it can benefit you as it benefited those who first heard it. Enjoy.

AIM: To understand God’s mind about love and its application in our day to day activities.

Let’s briefly ask this question this way, as we quickly clarify our doubts: “Is God a criminal?”

if we say love is a crime outrightly without giving a perspective, we will be wrong. “for God is Love”.

If God is love and love is a crime, then God is a criminal, or crime itself.

But then love can be misdirected, and misunderstood, at this point, it can be criminal to love or be “criminally” in love.

  1. What is love? 1 Corinthians 13:5-7
  2. How does love affect my academics?
  3. How do I handle my feelings?
  4. Is love a crime?

When is ‘Love’ a Crime?

  1. When love is not ready or when you’re not

Son 3:5  I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the hinds of the field that you stir not up nor awaken love until it pleases.

It has been said that love do happen to us when and where we do not expect, but you should know that it doesn’t happen when we are not ready. If you think you have found love and you are not ready, you have only found trouble and a burden.

Son 5:7 The watchmen who go about the city found me. They struck me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took my veil and my mantle from me.

Assuming Portiphar’s house is a school, there was a kind of ‘love’ that found Joseph there, the young chap run for dear life.

Assuming Samson took his purpose and training seriously, he would not have been messed up, he was looking for love when love did not ‘please’, look what he found, trouble.

  1. When it is secret or in stupid boldness

If Samson was told love is criminal, he would have replied earlier in his life “what is sweeter than honey? What is sweet cannot be criminal”. Alas, it can.

Pro 9:17-18 “Stolen water tastes best, and the food you eat in secret tastes best of all.” None who listen to Stupidity understand that her guests are as good as dead. CEV

  1. When ‘Love’ does not bring the best out of you

Rom 13:10 Love does no wrong to one’s neighbor [it never hurts anybody].

When ‘love’ is hurting you or what you are supposed to be doing (in this case, your studies), that is not the Love from God, it is the criminal love. Love from God, gives us grace to say NO to ungodliness, any love that is luring to wrong doing is criminal. (Proverbs 7:9-27)

Song of Solomon 3:5

Young women (AND MEN) of Jerusalem, swear to me by the gazelles or by the does in the field, that you will not awaken love or arouse love before its proper time. GW (AND MEN was added for emphasis)
