Nothing is impossible, only what you think is impossible.
Looking for Faith
Only by faith can we know men’s true sizes. Such details are known by the spirit. According to faith, we have men of little faith, men of no faith and men of great faith.
Jesus is looking for a particular perfume which when found, He cannot but shout eureka. When he cannot find it, he talks. That perfume is faith.
Except that you have been looking for something, you cannot just say you have not found it. Jesus must have been on the lookout for faith until he found it in one of the unlikely places_ with a Roman Centurion. “When Jesus heard, He marvelled and said to those who followed, Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel.” Mat 8:10
“I have not found” presupposes an ongoing search. A marvelous and an unfortunate thing is that “such great faith” was not found in Israel. If history is to repeat itself and Jesus comes into the church, will he find faith? It still baffles me why such great faith is scarce in Israel, because the next time it was found, it was found with an outsider to the commonwealth of Israel. Mat 15:28
Faith has been what Jesus is looking for, it was such a bother for Jesus that he exclaimed at a point “…when the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8
It is not that semblance of faith does not exist in Israel, but they are not the commended great faith.
Will it not be the same story if Jesus comes looking for faith in the Church today?
When faith was sought out among the closest of Jesus’ associates this was how the story went: “And He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Mark 4:40
How disappointing that must have been, but I cannot judge them because they became better and I must ask myself “have I?”.
We don’t want suffering, yet we want the glamour and glory of faith, how hypocritical. Like diamonds are found in earth’s crust so is faith discovered in the storms of life, if we are not tested how shall God discover we have such great faith? Maybe the reason we are quick to say “me I no go suffer” is because we don’t have the perfume God is looking for.
Do we need to pray the prayer for more faith? We may not if we already have the mustard-seed-sized faith, but do we?
Are we people of no faith or of little faith? We should get this straight that it is no longer fashionable to be fearful neither is it acceptable to keep being faithless simply because “…without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
We must begin to see nothing extraordinary in our believe that God exists or that He alone is God, the extraordinary thing is the diligent seeking of God. That is the distinguishing action. Anyone who believes God is, is not too different from devils. This is how James put it “You believe that there is one God, you do well; even the demons believe and tremble.” James 2:19. The crux of the matter is to go on ahead and diligently seek God. Don’t just stop at believing God is, continue to the proof of that belief “believe that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” by diligently seeking Him.
This seeking God of a thing argh! I felt sick when I realized there is no other way to please God than through faith and that when I tried faith I discover that it requires the ‘hard work’ diligence of seeking God. If you get what I am trying to say, I felt tired just thinking about diligently seeking God. I felt helpless.
This is not supposed to be tiring or wearisome, this is supposed to be our emergency exit into God. In fact this is our password into pleasing God and the open heavens we desire.
The open heavens will just be an empty space without God’s acceptance oozing through it. The proof of open heaven is God’s pleasure “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”
The hard work of believing that God rewards diligent seeker is primarily believing the good news that we are “accepted in the beloved” Ephesians 1:6 and by that knowledge find God because “in Him we live and move and have our being” Acts 17:28. This is God hiding right in front of our eyes. God is not lost, it is our faith that has been missing.
Nobody seems to appreciate air until they are choking or underwater, yet air is abundant around us except where human activities has spoilt or limited it. In the same manner we are all living in God and breathing God, yet we never desire Him as we should, some fools even say in their heart and with their mouth that there is no God. We say we are wise then the proof of that wisdom is to seek God and find him because more than water and more than air we need God. Anyone choking is in need of an emergency attention and how much more when we are choking and we don’t know it because the commodity we are struggling for is a person we all need and can NEVER live without. God.
When God is looking for faith and We are looking for God how do we make the meeting more likely? The same question asked differently; we have what God is looking for and God has what we are looking for how do we get what we are looking for?
Hint: “Jesus answered her, Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” John 11:40
