Why do you think Jesus will say to turn the left cheek (for a second slap) if someone slaps our right cheek, why?
If it is just for peace sake and to avoid vengeance he would simply have told us to walk away quietly anytime we are slapped. If it is because he doesn’t want me to fight or cause a scene, he would have told me to either apologize or beg the slapper and walk away. But why tell me to turn the left cheek when the right one is slapped? Arghh, does he delight in my suffering or what, why should my reaction be to take a second slap after the first, why?
This is what I found: JESUS SAID WE SHOULD TURN OUR LEFT CHEEK WHEN THE RIGHT ONE IS SLAPPED, (NOT TO EVEN WALK AWAY) BECAUSE HE WANTS US TO ENSURE THAT NO ONE SLAPS US IN THE FIRST PLACE.
WHEN YOU KNOW THAT YOUR COMMANDED RESPONSE TO A SLAP IS TO TAKE ANOTHER, YOU WILL BE WISE ENOUGH TO AVOID THE FIRST SLAP.
IF YOU KNOW THAT ONCE YOUR RIGHT CHEEK IS SLAPPED THE LEFT MUST BE SLAPPED, YOU WILL KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE AND WITH WHOM TO WALK.
Oh what a wisdom this is from Christ our Lord, a Christian should be the wisest and the smartest man anywhere and everywhere. When you know that the implication of being hurt is more hurt, you will deal wisely as a serpent and gently as a dove. As a believer, you cannot even curse someone that hurts you or keep malice, even if it’s the person that has something against you, you must go and settle with the person or your act of worship will be a waste of time(see Matthew 5:23-24). Shouldn’t believers then be the smartest and shrewdest in every way and dealing?
Being a Christian does not mean you are not slappable (hurtable), ‘TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED…’ IS NOT AN EXCEMPTION FROM SLAPS(HURTS), WISDOM IS. As a matter of fact, a fool and a Christian are the most slap prone individuals on earth. A fool because of his foolishness, a Christian because of his righteousness. Those who were slapped due to righteousness were slapped because of persecution not for crime, stupidity , gullibility or ignorance etc. Except for persecution, a Christian should live a slap free life. If Jesus is our perfect example, and he was only slapped because of righteousness( to fulfil the scriptures), I believe same should apply to us. Even now.
